Transitions is a collaborative mixed media project combining the talents of Thurlo Adams, Adam Douglas (Kemek), and Jürgen Dünhofen. It's a project one year in the making, and one that spans half the globe.
The music that accompanies the artwork is intended to express three stages of any transition: anticipation, stress of change, and acceptance. This was accomplished using similar hardware synthesizers (primarily the Roland JX-3P) and sounds throughout, but changing elements such as harmony and modulation to reflect the stresses and changes that occur in transitional periods. The music is meant to accompany the artworks that appear in the show and thus is somewhat incomplete on its own.
Artists' statement:
"We're excited to present our Collaboration titled Transitions, depicting leaps in our life from chaos to order. Transitions started with observing the flow of chaos and order between zones of quietude and stressful, busy moments where big changes in our lives occurred. Moments of flux that accompany experiencing starkly different cultures, countless moves, acclimatizing to new environments and forming and nurturing new relationships all influence the project.
"Thurlo and Jürgen styles' converse with each other as Adam's drone tracks mirror the fleeting emotions invoked in the drawings. It's been fascinating to watch the work develop, from a simple point of departure to a strong focus on portraiture emulating the theme."
